As the weeks of this semester have flown by, I have reflected on how deep my relationship with Sister Donna Jean has become. We have grown quite close over the course of the semester, which is something neither of us expected. Each Wednesday afternoon at 3:20 we meet in Room 4 to discuss various topics and catch up on each other’s lives.
These Wednesday afternoon meetings never seem to be enough for either of us. The hour of conversation flies by quickly as the time of 4:20 quietly creeps upon us. During the preparation for the official interview, we would practice every week, going over the questions and consistently editing our list. Those meetings would especially speed by as we spent so much time getting off topic and learning more and more about one another. It felt just like being with your best friend.
I think we both feel as though we were perfectly matched. We have an immense amount of similarities within our personalities and our work ethic. The more I learn about her, the more I feel I relate so much to her experience. There may be a large age gap and very different lifestyle, but our desire for a challenge is far too alike. I have found that we were destined to be in this together.
She has taught me so much through this experience, and I can only hope that I taught her or shared something with her that she will remember as well. She has endured a lot within this semester with her family, but she has shown me what true resilience looks like. She embodies strength and generosity that I can only hope to have someday as well.
Sister Donna Jean has inspired me to be better and to do better. I look forward to seeing her every week, and I believe she does too.
