Even though I am familiar with most of the Sisters of the Congregation of Divine Providence, Sister Pearl was the exception. I had seen her around a couple of times, but she intimidated me. She seemed like she could be the president of the United States. She always appeared so professional, so intelligent and so powerful.
Later I found out that the Holy Sprit had paired me with her for SisterStory. My mind started to wonder, "What in the world are you trying to do God? Why would you pair me with such a Sister?"
I decided to trust in Providence and scheduled my first meeting with Sister Pearl.
We met in her office. I slowly made my way to the convent, praying for everything to go well. When I arrived, the receptionist opened the door. I told her I was there to see Sister Pearl. She directed me to the second floor. There I encountered a second receptionist, who asked me to take a seat. After five minutes she took me into a meeting room with a big long table and big windows.
She stated, “Sister Pearl will be with you shortly."
I felt like I was meeting a CEO.
Ten minutes later Sister Pearl came in and took a seat in front of me. Our conversation went a little like this:
Sister Pearl: "Hello, Michelle. How are you?"
Me: "Hello, Sister. I'm good, how about yourself? How was your vacation? Did you go back home?" (Isn’t that what all sisters do on their vacation?)
Sister Pearl: "Oh, no -- I went on a cruise around Europe!"
Me: "Well, then you went with your family?"
Sister Pearl: "No, I went with friends."
Our conversation continued, and I have to say that she is very kind and sweet but totally a businesswomen. She is currently the Executive Director of Project Quest. She goes from meeting to meeting to meeting every day all day long.
At the end of our meeting she asked me “So Michelle, why did you choose me?”
My response was, “Oh Sister I didn’t choose you; the Holy Spirit gave you to me.”
I have to admit that I am really thankful I was paired up with her. After all, the CDPs are right: Always trust Providence.
I will meet with her again next Tuesday, at Project Quest’s 22nd Anniversary Luncheon. She is expecting 500 people. Totally businesswoman!!!
